Takashimaya New York was the famed Fifth Avenue flagship of the Japanese department store, selling an exquisitely curated assortment of artisan crafted wares imbued with an Asian aesthetic.
Takashimaya became a haven for decorators and tastemakers, and our branding - from the opening image brochure to the closing advertising - was key in creating the image of the store.
During our decade long relationship we oversaw all of their marketing output: catalogs, advertising, development of private label goods, packaging, promotional print materials, etc. We met annually to formulate marketing objectives for the year, then advised them on the best ways to maximize their budgets so that they could convey the specialty character of their brand within their limited means.
Every year Takashimaya produced a luxurious, limited edition catalog. These intimate and engaging pieces are coveted and have become collectible items. In this piece, Volume 9, each page is diecut to form a bound brochure with a textural edge, reminescent of layers of the earth. As you open the oragami-crafted envelope mailer, the textural stepped edge is revealed.
